Applications are invited for the post of Apprentice Traffic Signals Engineer to join the Green Signals Consulting team, working on many exciting projects in the UK and potentially overseas.
Green Signals Consulting is a specialist Engineering Consultancy providing traffic engineering expertise to the public and private sector. Commencing trading in early 2013, we are well established within our market, having a proven reputation for delivering high quality projects to numerous clients.
Due to an expanding workload, we are currently looking to employ 2 apprentices to expand our team. You will be given the opportunity to work with and learn from our small team of industry experts. For the right candidate, this will provide an excellent opportunity to quickly gain knowledge and confidence in a niche industry where there is currently a shortage of skills.
The successful candidate will join the existing Green Signals team in delivering a wide range of traffic signal projects, covering all modes of control and with varying degrees of complexity.
As an Apprentice, you will be given on the job training in order to assist you and ensure you are given the knowledge to undertake your job with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency. As your capability and confidence grows, you will be given the opportunity to work on more technically challenging projects where you will be expected to put into practice your earlier learning and take responsibility for the delivery of your own projects. You will be expected to work using your own initiative both on site and in the office, although we will ensure that you have a mentor to guide you as appropriate.
The successful candidate will undertake the following tasks in their role with Green Signals
- Use of computer modelling software to simulate the operation of traffic signals
- Visits to new or existing locations for traffic signals to collect information (measurements, photographs and pre-design information)
- Traffic signal designs for new crossings and junctions
- Traffic signal timing calculations
- Program traffic signal controllers by writing configurations
- Writing of works installation specifications
- Testing new equipment
- Validation and amendment of timings to suit traffic flows to optimise performance
- Project management
- Report writing
The successful candidate will have a strong work ethic, an ability to learn on the job, retain knowledge and apply that learning to other projects as well as having logical problem solving skills. The ability to communicate, work well with others and implement instructions effectively are critical to this role. Occasional early starts and late finishes may be necessary.
A valid UK driving licence (preferably clean) and a valid passport are important but not essential to this role at the current time, however the successful candidate would need to be working towards putting these in place if they do not currently have either of these items. Willingness to travel within the UK and occasionally overseas are essential to this role.
